Short description Transponder of signals from ground-based beacons transmitting emergency message at 406 MHz and, untill 2009, 121.5 and 243 MHz. Messages and Doppler information for location are relayed to Local User Terminals for re-addressing to a control centre that activates the appropriate rescue organisation
Background Part of the international COSPAS/SARSAT Search & Rescue system agreed by Canada, France, Russia and USA and subscribed by further 37 States and 2 Organisations
